Welcome to

Namirembe Cathedral

“A Living Legacy of Faith Since 1890”

Dear Pilgrims, Visitors, and Beloved in Christ,

Standing majestically on Namirembe Hill, St. Paul’s Cathedral is more than a building—it is a testament to God’s faithfulness through generations. As the oldest cathedral in Uganda and the mother church of the Anglican Church of Uganda, we invite you to explore:

A Sacred Heritage

  • Founded in 1890, our cathedral has weathered storms, fires, and rebuilding, emerging stronger each time—just like the faith it represents.

  • The current structure, completed in 1919, blends Gothic architecture with Ugandan craftsmanship, symbolizing the unity of global and local faith.

  • Walk the same halls where Kabaka Mwanga II, Bishop Tucker, and generations of believers have worshipped.

A Place of Pilgrimage

  • Spiritual Heartbeat: Host to enthronements of bishops and archbishops, and a beacon for Anglican worship.

  • Historic Treasures: Marvel at the Buddo-crafted pulpit, the WWI memorial lectern, and stained glass honoring martyrs and kings.

  • Hannington Chapel: Remember the sacrifice of early missionaries like Bishop Hannington, whose legacy fuels our mission.

Your Invitation

Whether you come to:

  • Worship in our English/Luganda services,

  • Celebrate sacraments (baptisms, weddings, thanksgivings),

  • Reflect in our chapels and gardens, or

  • Discover Uganda’s Christian heritage,

…you are welcome here.

“For a hundred years, these walls have echoed with prayers. Join us as we write the next chapter of faith.”

Ask your friends if they have a place to worship the Savior and invite them to come worship with you, especially at times like Christmas and Easter. If they aren’t Christians, ask them if they’d like to learn more about Jesus Christ and invite them to experience a Christian worship service with you. Remember to show the same respect for their beliefs that you hope they will give yours.

There are many questions Christians are asked that the individual Christian is unable to answer. It happens all the time.
